HOT TIP! "CRIME FIGHTERS" Number on MTN

The SPECTATOR newspaper for the past couple of weeks has been
advertising on its front page a number, reputed to be sponsored by the
BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION, MTN, and the Ghana Police.

That number is 185555, which works on the MTN network only.

1. To report emergencies, Ghanaians should still use 191 on their mobiles
2. CRIME FIGHTERS (this 185555 line) is free (I called with no credit
and we sustained a lengthy conversation)
3. The line is to report crimes, or report suspected criminals
4. Calls are recorded when it is not a general enquiry being sought on the line
5. To request police patrol, best to organise a car, fill it up, and
get police to patrol for you. Apparently East Legon does it that way
(!!!)
6. CRIME FIGHTERS is available ONLY on MTN
7. Tip given to use the line efficiently is when you suspect someone
has been committing a crime, and you have reasonable grounds they need
to be taken in
8. Only calls providing information (pertinent) to a crime will be recorded
